LEWISBURG, Pa. - The offensive woes crept up on the Bucknell softball team again, as the Bison dropped two games to visiting Lehigh on Saturday, April 19. The Orange and Blue could not overcome a slow start in the opener, falling 10-0 in six innings, before dropping a 4-0 decision in the nightcap.

The Mountain Hawks wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the first inning. Bucknell retired the first batter, but the next four Lehigh players to come to the plate reached on singles, including Jessica Young's two-run shot to left center.

Lehigh pitcher Emily Ling carried a perfect game into the fifth inning, while her teammates staked her to a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Lauren Wible led off with a single to right center, registering BU's first hit of the game. After a pitching change brought in Kate Arico, Kris Devore delivered a single through the left side to present Bucknell's biggest threat of the game. A sacrifice bunt by Alyssa Schneebaum moved the runners to second and third, but Arico got the next two batters out to get out of the jam.

Bucknell committed three errors in the top of the sixth inning, leading to three more runs for Lehigh. The Bison had runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth, but could not capitalize on a Mountain Hawk error, losing the game 10-0 in six innings due to the 10-run rule.

The second game saw the Bison facing another early deficit, as Lehigh scored one in the top of the opening frame. Stephanie Digneo drew a two-out walk, before Jenny Bender delivered a triple to right centerfield for the first run of the game.

BU got its first hits of the game a little earlier this time, picking up two singles in the second. Devore hit one up the middle, before Jenna Fitch pounded a two-out shot of her own up the middle. Bender, on the mound for Lehigh, got out of it with a strike out to end the inning.

The Mountain Hawks struck again in the third, tacking on another run on four hits. Shana Treon led off the inning with a single, but was a victim of a double play on the next batter. With two outs, Digneo registered her second hit in as many at bats, followed by a Bender single up the middle. Young stepped up and singled in Digneo for one of her eight RBI on the day.

Lehigh scored again in the fifth and seventh innings, and Bucknell could manage only four base runners from the third to the sixth innings. The Orange and Blue threatened in their final at-bat. Jenny Ross drew a pinch-hit walk, and Jill Pompeii singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Bender got out of the jam again, inducing a double-play ball to end the game.

Young had a day at the plate for Lehigh, going 7-for-8 with eight RBI, a triple and two doubles.

Bucknell falls to 8-25 overall and 3-8 in Patriot League play. The Bison host Lehigh for another doubleheader on Sunday at noon. The Mountain Hawks improve to 28-7 and 13-1 in conference play.
