LEWISBURG, Pa. - The hot hitting of Lehigh's Jenny Bender along with the no-hit shutout performance by Emily Ling pushed the Mountain Hawks past the Bison in both games of Sunday's Patriot League doubleheader. Lehigh claimed a 5-3 victory in game one, then scored nine runs behind Ling's five inning no-hitter to capture game two 9-0. Jenna Fitch and Meredith Gill each stroked two hits on the day to lead Bucknell.

In game one, Bucknell grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Gill led off with a double to right center and scored three batters later on freshman Kris Devore's two-out triple down the right field line. Fitch followed with a single through the right side to drive in Devore.

Bender led off Lehigh's half of the second with a double to right center field. Pinch runner Kate Arico scored two batters later on Mary Wieder's sacrifice fly to left. After a two-out single by Kelly Kliewer, Erin Hengemuhle smacked an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game up at 2-2.

Bucknell grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second after Jennifer Ross led off with a double and moved to third on Kristen Potts's sacrifice bunt. Ross then scored on a wild pitch from Arico to give the Bison a one-run lead.

Lehigh took the lead for good in the third thanks to a two-run double by Bender. Lehigh added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Stephanie Digneo. Arico got the win in the circle for the Mountain Hawks, and Bender picked up the save, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Kelli Haskins struck out four in seven innings but took the loss for Bucknell. Fitch and Gill each collected a single and double in the game.

In game two, Ling struck out eight Bison batters and did not allow a runner past second base in five innings to earn the no-hit victory. Digneo was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Mountain Hawks. Bender was also 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Xochitl Mota also added a triple.

The Bison fall to 3-10 in Patriot League play and 8-27 overall. The first-place Mountain Hawks improved their league record to 15-1.

Bucknell travels to Rider Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. The team will then host Patriot League foe Lafayette on Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Lafayette doubleheader was rescheduled earlier this month because of snowy conditions in Lewisburg.
