Bucknell vs. Colgate Box Score (L, 3-1)

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Bucknell tallied three of its five hits and scored its lone run in the top of the seventh, but the late comeback fell short as the Bison lost to Colgate 3-1 in Patriot League softball action Sunday afternoon at Eaton Street Field. The two teams did not play the second game of the scheduled doubleheader due to the final Patriot League Tournament seeding already being determined.

With the loss, Bucknell (15-33-1, 7-12 PL) was eliminated from Patriot League Tournament consideration and saw its 2007 campaign come to a close. Army claimed the fourth spot in the final standings. Colgate clinched the second seed in this week's tournament and evened its overall record at 22-22. The Raiders finished 12-5 in league play.

Bucknell starter Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) (9-16) had a strong outing in her 30th appearance of the season, a new program record. She tallied her 16th complete game of the season, scattered seven hits and retired 10 of the final 12 hitters she faced. However, Colgate touched her for a pair of unearned runs in the second. The Raiders added an insurance run in the sixth with a solo home run from LaPorscha Albert.

The Bison managed just two hits over the first six innings against Colgate starter Kelsey Nordstrom, who won all three games in the series and improved to 14-7. However, Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), Heather Haskin (Noblesville, Ind./Thomas Scecina) and Ashley Carlson (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) each tallied singles in the top of the seventh, with Carlson's driving in Beans to cut the deficit to 3-1. With pinch runner Lauren Trosch (Reisterstown, Md./McDonough) and Carlson representing the tying runs on first and second base, Nordstrom retired the final two Bison to end the game.

Nordstrom ended up yielding five hits to Bucknell while walking two and striking out five. Wiest also struck out five to end the season with a Bison-record 122.

Carlson and Haskin each tallied two hits apiece for Bucknell. Carlson finished the season with a career-best .338 batting average, second on the team to Erin Curatola's (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) .342.

The Patriot League Tournament will run Thursday, May 10, through Saturday, May 12, at Lehigh.
