Four Bison Named to All-Patriot League Softball Teams
May 5, 2009
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell softball placed four student-athletes on the 2009 All-Patriot League teams Tuesday. Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), Elyse Colmenero (Fresno, Calif./Central) and Alison Ford (Suison, Calif./Fairfield) were each First Team honorees, while Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) was named to the Second Team. Beans was named to the First Team All-Patriot League for the first time in her career after posting some of the biggest numbers during her time as a Bison. The senior hit .293 (17-for-58) in league action this year. Beans' success at the plate includes league-ranking marks of two doubles, two triples and four home runs. Her .603 slugging percentage also places her sixth in the league. An installment in the outfield, Beans has started every game this season in center, committing just one error while consistently robbing opponents of base hits. Beans became the all-time leader in games played at Bucknell earlier this season. Through the end of the regular season, she had played in 196 career contests. The honor is the second of Beans' career. She was voted Second Team All-Patriot League in 2006 as a freshman. In just two years in the Orange and Blue, Colmenero has developed into one of the league's top catchers. The sophomore leads the league by throwing out nine would-be base stealers this season. She is also 10th in the Patriot League in put outs with 64. Colmenero is equally effective at the plate, posting a .311 batting average and ranking in the league's top 10 in sacrifice flies, walks and hit-by-pitches. Colmenero played a key role in Bucknell's tournament-clinching victory against Army on April 26, drilling two home runs in the same game. The feat made her the seventh Bison in program history to hit two homers in a single game.
The All-League honor is the second of Colmenero's career. As a freshman, she was also named to the First Team after leading the Patriot League in hitting with a .468 average. Ford earned her first career All-League selection after batting .224 (13-for-58). Her four home runs against Patriot League pitchers tie her for fourth in the league. Her 15 RBI rank sixth in the league and is the top mark on the team. Placed on the team as a utility player, Ford has seen action at first and third bases as well as designated player this season. The sophomore has a .983 fielding percentage having committed a lone error in her 19 league games. Lloyd, who leads the league in batting at .480 (24-for-50), earned her second career all-league team nod. The senior was selected to the First Team last season. In 2009, Lloyd has been the model of consistency for the Bison, tallying 11 RBI and posting a .560 slugging percentage and .509 on-base percentage in league action. Her 24 hits is also tied for second in the league. In the field, the first baseman has not committed an error in 18 league contests. The Bison are back in action as the No. 3 seed at the Patriot League Tournament starting Thursday, May 7. They will take on No. 2 Colgate at 4 p.m. at Lehigh's Kaufman Field. Top-seeded Lehigh will face No. 4 Lafayette in the first game of the day at 2 p.m. The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday, May 9.
