LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior outfielder Lauren Titus (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America University Division Softball Team. Her spot on the first-team marks her first appearance on the national squad. The team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), was announced on Thursday, June 6.

To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. Titus became eligible for national recognition after her selection to the District 2 first-team earlier this year.

Titus makes her first appearance on the national team after being named to the District 2 team on two separate occasions throughout her career. The leftfielder batted a career-high .303 this season with a team-best five doubles. A Biology major with minors in Chemistry and Spanish, Titus has maintained a 3.94 grade-point-average at Bucknell. Earning a perfect 4.0 in four of her eight semesters, she has been on the University's Dean's List every semester, and is a constant on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. In addition, she is a recipient of The President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement, and a member of both the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honors Society and the Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Fraternity.

The Bucknell softball team finished the season with a 12-32 overall record, and a mark of 5-15 in the Patriot League.

Bucknell University is third in the nation (to Nebraska and Notre Dame) for total number of national Academic All-American selections. With the addition of Titus, a total of 102 Bison student-athletes have received national Academic All-America recognition since 1970.
