Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Closes Out Dual Meet Schedule with 182-107 Victory over Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team won 13 of the first 14 events on the way to a 182-107 victory over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bison wrap up their 2007-08 dual meet schedule with a record of 4-4, 4-2 in the Patriot League, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 0-11 (0-5 PL). Senior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins), freshman Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) were double winners for the Orange and Blue. Skroski placed first in the 1,000 free with a time of 10 minutes, 36.95 seconds and was victorious in the 500 free, finishing in 5:11.94. Goebel was first to the wall in the 50 free (24.77) and the 100 fly (59.82), while claiming the runner-up spot in the 100 free (55.14). Mongan won the 200 back in 1:56.84, posted the fastest time in the 100 free, 54.11, and placed second in the 50 free (25.02). Freshman Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) took first in the 200 breast, clocking in at 2:28.27, and sophomore Caroline Walsh (Watchung, N.J./Kent Place School) followed in second with a time of 2:35.38. In the 100 breast, junior Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) recorded the top time of 1:08.40, while Keath took third in 1:08.85.
Sophomore Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) registered a career best time of 2:08.22 to win the 200 back and place her 10th in the Bison record books. She also finished second in the 100 back (1:01.22), behind sophomore Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) who claimed first in the event with a time of 59.24.
Sophomore Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin Senior High) came in second in the 200 fly (2:13.99) and was third in the 100 fly (1:01.00). Her classmate, Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) was the runner-up in the 200 back (2:08.71) and posted the top time in the 200 IM as an exhibition swimmer, 2:12.02. Also swimming exhibition in the 200 IM and recording the second- and third-best times were Russell (2:13.05) and freshman Sinead O'Dwyer (Green River, Wyo./The Peddie School (N.J.)) (2:16.39). The Bison went one-two-three in both diving events. Sophomore Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) led the way in the one-meter competition with career-best mark of 255.37 and sophomore Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was first on the three-meter board, scoring 236.40 points. The team of Warren, Morris, Goebel and Mongan won the 200 medley relay in 1:49.38 and Atkinson, Pease, junior Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and freshman Katie John (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) registered the top 800 free relay time, 7:58.45, swimming exhibition in the event. Bucknell will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2, when several members of the squad will compete in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. |
