Courtney Warren Wins 100 Backstroke at ECAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bucknell junior Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) won the ECAC championship in the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday night at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, highlighting a strong day for a small contingent of Bison swimmers. Warren was the only swimmer in the field to go under 56 seconds in the prelims of the 100 back, then her time of 55.53 seconds in the final bested Amy Perrault of New Hampshire by just .16 seconds. At the Patriot League Championships last weekend at Kinney Natatorium, Warren broke the school record in that event with a time of 55.02. Warren became Bucknell's first women's Eastern champion since Jen Myers won the 200 back in 1997. On Friday night, Warren took third in the 50 freestyle in 23.86. On the men's side, junior Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) posted his second top-three finish of the meet on Saturday when he placed third in the 200 free in 1:39.75. A night earlier he won the silver medal in the 500 free (4:24.87). Also on Saturday, sophomore Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and junior Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) placed fourth and sixth, respectively in the men's 100 backstroke. DeLeon swam 51.01 in the final and Fletcher 51.67. Both set personal bests in the prelims. DeLeon's 51.01 makes him the fifth-fastest performer in Bucknell history, while Fletcher's 51.33 ranks seventh. The ECAC Championships wrap up on Sunday at Harvard.
