Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Picks Up Wins Over American and Lafayette, Falls to Navy in Quad Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In action against three Patriot League foes on Saturday afternoon, the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team picked up wins against American and Lafayette, but fell to Navy. The Bison, who defeated the Eagles, 223-71, and the Leopards, 170-130, while dropping a 163-137 decision to the Mids, level their dual-meet record at 2-2 on the season (2-1 PL). Two individuals and one relay were victorious in the meet for the Orange and Blue. Sophomore Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of one minute, 7.55 seconds and freshman Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) took first in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:44.50. In the 200 medley relay, Warren, junior Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen), freshman Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) teamed up to post the winning time of 2:02.05. The Bison logged five runner-up performances, as well, Mongan in the 200 free with a time of 2:09.82, sophomore Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) in the 100 back (1:07.99), Morris in the 100 breast (1:16.16), sophomore Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) in one-meter diving (240.35) and Keath in the 400 IM (5:13.73).
There were seven third-place showings for Bucknell. Senior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) finished third in the 800 free with a time of 9:18.19, sophomore Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) registered the third-highest mark in one-meter diving (226.15), Bersani took third on the three-meter board with a score of 233.45, Atkinson claimed third in the 200 back (2:25.44), Morris was third in the 200 breast (2:44.83), sophomore Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin posted the third-fastest time in the 100 fly (1:07.35) and junior Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), Skroski, freshman Katie John (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) and junior Alexandra Lovallo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) combined for a time of 1:54.71 in the 200 free relay, which was good for third.
Rounding out the top performances by the Bison in the meet were fourth-place finishes by Keath, Pease, Goebel and sophomore Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell). Keath's came in the 100 breast (1:17.32), Pease's in the 200 fly (2:28.27), Goebel's in the 50 free (27.64) and Russell's came in the 400 IM (5:14.18). Bucknell returns home next Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18, to play host to the Trials/Finals Invitational. Trials will begin at 10 a.m., and finals at 5 p.m., each day in Kinney Natatorium. |
