Porcellio, Perry, 800 Free Relay Post Victories as Bison Women's Swimming and Diving Moves Into First Place at Bucknell Invitational
Nov. 17, 2012 LEWISBURG, Pa. -Lauren Perry set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle and collected one of three victories for the Bison on the second day of the Bucknell Invitational Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. Thanks to the strong performances, the Bison moved past Delaware and into first place in the team standings with just one day to go in the weekend meet. Perry broke the school record in the 200 free that had been held by Megan Mongan since 2009 in the morning prelims and then beat her own new standard in the finals when she touched the wall in 1 minute, 51.34 seconds, shaving .45 off her earlier record. Perry, who finished fifth in the 50 free on Friday, won the 200 free by 2.72 seconds over runner-up Laura Askin of Delaware. Perry was also part of a pair of relays that set new program top-10 times on Saturday. Elizabeth Porcellio joined Perry in the winner's circle as she claimed first in the 400 IM to go along with a fifth-place showing in the 200 free. Porcellio's finals time of 4:25.08 was a personal best and moved her up to third in program history, one spot ahead of teammate Stephanie Koziol. Porcellio had been ranked fourth on that list entering the weekend. Perry, Koziol and Porcellio teamed up with Kelly Pontecorvo to put together a strong performance in the 800 free relay. The foursome won the race and posted the No. 2 time in program history in the event. It is the lone relay time that has not fallen during head coach Dan Schinnerer's seven years at the helm of the Bison and the group was just .33 seconds off the record that has stood since the 2003 Patriot League Championships. Emma Levendoski, who was part of the 200 medley relay that posted the No. 10 time in program history, finished second in the 100 back on Saturday and her time of 56.14 places her second on the school's records list behind only former Patriot League Champion Courtney Warren. Kristen Purdy (11th in 100 fly) and Emily Norton (5th in 100 breast) were Bucknell's top finishers in the other events contested on Saturday. The Bucknell Invitational will wrap up Sunday at Kinney Natatorium. Prelims are scheduled for 10 a.m., while the finals will commence at 5 p.m. Team Scores New Top-10 Marks Bucknell Results Melissa Besman Rachel Brekovsky Jennifer Brennan Gina Gautieri Anna Griest Emily Gwynn Ashley Henderson Stephanie Koziol Meg Lattimer Emma Levendoski Lyndsey Marcheskie Alanna Nawrocki Emily Norton Morgan Oxley Lauren Perry Kelly Pontecorvo Elizabeth Porcellio Kristen Purdy Alyssa Rollando Sydney Schroeder Jackie Shroyer Marisa Taddeo Kaitlyn Utkewicz 200 medley relay 800 free relay
