Bucknell Women's Swimming Journal - Megan Mongan
Sept. 21, 2008
... hard to believe but we are already a full month into the academic year and the first set of exams is already on top of us. It seems like only one day ago that my parents were moving me into my humble abode in Larison Cottage. I have a sister (literally, not from my sorority) on campus this year which I love and will give me another reason to attend lacrosse games in the spring. Getting back into the water has been good so far. Even morning practices are bright and cheery when Shana is on deck - a superb addition to our coaching staff this year. And even better, she is not named "Dan" like all the other coaches. I am very impressed by the efforts of the team in this first month of training. In the pool and in the weight room there seems to be a collective effort in challenging each other to do harder intervals and increase the weights. A few of the girls are pursuing a coaching staff "pull-up" challenge to be completed by October 23. We have 23 new freshmen (men and women) this year and I like what I see in the water so far. Although there were a few mishaps with alarms not going off the first week of 6 a.m. practice, they all seem to be quickly adjusting to college swimming. With the help of team bonding on and off deck they are molding themselves into what should become a vital part of our team. I love the energy and enthusiasm they bring to practice daily; there are definitely a few characters in their class. Some of the upperclassmen thought it was pretty funny when we heard a couple freshmen ordered blacklights for their room to impress recruits. As the Patriot League keeps getting better it is important that Bucknell's program continues to develop. We have had individual and team goal meetings with Dan and everybody seems very determined to build and improve from last year. The way things have started I am ecstatic to see how things play out in the upcoming months. Less than two weeks until our first meet, and I cannot wait to compete!
