Bucknell's Katie Hetherington Named Patriot League Female Diver of the Week
Oct. 8, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) was named the Patriot League Female Diver of the Week on Monday following a pair of first-place finishes in the Bison's season-opening unscored meet at UMBC. It is the fifth time Hetherington has been honored with the award in her short career. A Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2012, Hetherington won the one-meter board vs. the Retrievers with a score of 227.03, while she captured the three-meter diving competition with a tally of 231.45. It marked her fifth career sweep of both boards in a dual meet. Hetherington was one of three Bison, along with swimmers Emma Levendoski (50 back, 100 back, 200 back) and Kelly Pontecorvo (500 free, 1,000 free), to win at least two events against UMBC. Bucknell's season-opening meet with UMBC took place Sept. 29, but the first set of Patriot League weekly awards for the 2012-13 season counted competitions from each of the last two weeks. Hetherington enters her sophomore campaign coming off an outstanding freshman season that saw her finish second (three-meter) and third (one-meter) at last year's Patriot League Championships. She also competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Meet and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Hetherington and her Bison teammates will be back in action Oct. 20 when they face Fordham and host UConn in a double dual meet in Storrs, Conn.
