Bucknell Women's Swimming Journal - Molly Goebel

Dec. 2, 2008

Sophomore year. It's Round 2, and I'm still standing.

It's hard to believe that I am not a freshman anymore. It went by in a blink of an eye, but it was definitely a great year.

Same pool, same nine practices per week schedule, but different attitude! The sometimes very intimidating unknown of being a freshman is gone. This year there are a lot less surprises, and I know what to expect. As sophomores, we aren't quite as timid, and we know what we can do.

There are a lot of things thrown at you freshman year that are difficult to juggle: school, swimming, living away from home, figuring out how to stay healthy. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm learning how to make it work. Being a sophomore definitely has its perks, no more pulling lane lines at 6 a.m., and no more riding on the short bus, but we still have a lot to learn and we haven't reached our potential. This year we have amazing team chemistry, as well as a very talented group of freshmen and great leadership from our seniors, which has helped us come together as a team.

Everyone is really excited about how things are going so far; we're training hard and competing well. We succeed because we support and push each other. It's only the beginning to what is going to be an amazing season. I think we all know that we have a lot more in store for these upcoming months, and we're excited to show everyone what we can do.
