Bucknell Women's Tennis Falls to Colgate, 5-2

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Bucknell's women's tennis team opened its spring slate with a 5-2 loss at Patriot League rival Colgate on Saturday. The Bison received singles wins from freshman Ashley Diers at No. 2 singles and sophomore Samantha Berthod at No. 6 singles. Colgate (7-3) earned the doubles point by sweeping the three pairs matches, then clinched the decision with wins at first, third, fourth and fifth singles. Diers, who went 7-2 in the fall, was a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victor over Lauren Erickson. Berthod cruised past Ali Grabler, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Bison junior Jill Wurzburg won the first set before Lindsay Suffredini rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. Freshman Nadezda Curcic got the call at No. 1 singles and dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Marissa Allkpala. Bucknell is off until Spring Break, when it opens a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a 7 p.m. match against Radford on March 10.
