Bucknell Women's Tennis Puts Out Red Flash 6-1

LORETTO, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis claimed its first victory of the spring, knocking off Saint Francis (Pa.) 6-1 in Loretto, Pa., on Friday night. The Bison (1-4) earned straight sets decisions in each of their wins. Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) won both her matches, moving her up the Bucknell record lists. Lucido started off with an 8-3 victory with Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) at No. 1 doubles. She later sailed past Tina Miller 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. The singles win gave Lucido sole control of fourth on the program's all-time wins list with a career record of 74-33. She also moved into a tie with former teammate Tania Varela on the doubles list with a 73-29 career ledger. Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Sutherland) teamed up for a win at second doubles, taking the 8-1 decision. Casey was even more dominant in singles play, defeating Julie Meier 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles. Vidrascu allowed just two games in the entire match to Laura Husband, while Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) defeated Devynn Sarver 6-1, 6-0. The Red Flash earned its only win of the match at third singles. Alex Foty defeated Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) 6-2, 1-0 after Rottkamp retired with an injury.
Bucknell improves its all-time series record to 11-0 against Saint Francis. Bucknell will be back in action on March 5 when they head to Olean, N.Y., for a 9 a.m. bout with St. Bonaventure. Bucknell 6, Saint Francis (Pa.) 1 Singles |
