Bison Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Loss to Marist

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team dropped its sixth straight loss of the season to Marist, 6-1, this afternoon at the West Branch Tennis Club. Freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) collected the Bison's lone point of the match, while the team of junior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East) and sophomore Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) earned its second straight doubles victory. Varela picked up her win in the No. 4 singles spot as she defeated Megan Gureck, 6-3, 6-3. Baffa and Simonetti dropped Gureck and Colon, 8-6, in the No. 3 doubles spot. In the No. 2 singles, sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) lost to Christina Ong, 6-4, 7-6(8-6). The duo of Gamboa and sophomore Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill/Hinsdale Central) fell to Cassie Strange and Ong in the No. 1 doubles spot, 9-7. The Bucknell women's tennis squad will travel to Hilton Head, S.C., to face Dayton on Tuesday, Mar. 13. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m. Marist 6, Bucknell 1
