Southern Miss Tops Bison Women's Tennis, 4-1

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Freshman Tanya Sichko picked up a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, but Southern Miss won at each of the top four singles spots to gain a 4-1 victory over the Bison Wednesday at Port Royal Racquet Club. Sichko defeated Jessica Olson 6-1, 6-2 for her team-best 11th singles victory of the season. Two other Bison lost three-set decisions. On Court 1, freshman Nadezda Curcic took the first set from Shawny Price before falling 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, the Golden Eagles' Olivia Barry defeated junior Jill Wurzburg, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. At No. 2, Jennifer Sibille defeated freshman Ashley Diers, 6-1, 6-4, and at fourth singles Sara Anne Harrison defeated Bison senior Kristin Inglis in a close match, 7-5, 6-4. The start of the match was delayed by rain and was limited to the five singles matches and just one doubles contest, won by Southern Miss.
