Bucknell Women's Tennis Defeats Niagara, 5-2

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - On Wednesday, the Bucknell women's tennis squad snapped its seven game losing streak in their win over Niagara, 5-2, at the Hilton Head Tournament. The Bison, now 2-8 on the season, will play Colorado State on Thursday, March 15, at 12 p.m. Bucknell took an early 1-0 lead after winning two out of three doubles matches. The team of Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) dropped Jennifer Cremieux and Molly Matthew, 9-7, in the No. 1 spot, while Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) and Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) won their second straight doubles match in the No. 2 spot over Vanja Lakic and Shella Dargout, 8-5, to clinch the doubles point. In singles action, Calcaterra dropped Matthews in the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 7-5, while Varela moved up into the No. 2 spot to beat Cremieux, 6-1, 6-2, to make the score 3-0. Globerman clinched the match after she took down Jullianne Prokopich, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 3 spot. Gamboa ended her six match skid to beat Lakic, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot. Bucknell 5, Niagara 2
