Bucknell Women's Tennis Blanked by Colorado State, 7-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - In its final match at the Hilton Head Tournament, the Bucknell women's tennis team was defeated by Colorado State, 7-0. The Orange and Blue finished the tournament with a mark of 1-2. Bucknell fell to 2-9 on the season. In doubles action, the Rams took a 1-0 lead over the Bison after winning all three doubles matches. The team of Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) was defeated by Emily Kirchem and Hilary Tyler, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot to end its two-match winning streak. The duo of Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) and Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) ended its two-match winning streak as well after losing to Laura Neal and Lauren Strasburger, 8-2, in the No. 2 spot. Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East) and Renee Weissend (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) lost to Greer Satherlie and Rui Xu, 8-2 in the No. 3 spot. At the No. 1 singles spot, Gamboa was defeated by Kirchem, 6-0, 6-0, while Varela fell to Strasburger, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot. Globerman was dropped by Lauren Neal in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-0. Calcaterra was defeated by Tyler, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot. In the No. 5 spot, JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park High School) lost to Anette Pohjalainen, 6-0, 6-1, while Weissend was defeated by Kirsten Stople, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 spot.
Bucknell will host Mount St. Mary's in its home opener on Tuesday, March 20, at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. Colorado State 7, Bucknell 0
