Bush, McAndrew Win Twice but Bucknell Women's Tennis Takes Defeat Twice
March 16, 2012 ORLANDO, Fla. - A singles sweep in one match and a doubles sweep in the next sent Bucknell women's tennis to a pair of losses on Friday in Orlando, Fla. The Bison fell 6-1 to Rhode Island in their morning match before dropping a 4-3 match to Chicago State later in the day. The pair of contests marked the end of Bucknell's Spring Break campaign in which it finished 1-5. Bucknell (2-9) got off to a strong start against Rhode Island but was unable to sustain the effort. The Bison claimed the doubles point after winning at the second and third positions. Elena Vidrascu and Lydia Colvin here 9-8 (6) winners over Kathleen Uy and Nithila Asokaraj. Jen Bush and Alyssa McAndrew defeated Pam Emery and Sam Greco 8-6. Rhode Island secured the team victory by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Bush and Vidrascu had two of the closer matches. Bush fell 6-5, 6-4 to Asokaraj at No. 5 singles, while Vidrascu dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Kirsten Leikem at No. 2. After a tough start to the day, things did not get much better when the Bison took on Chicago State. The Cougars won two of three matches in doubles action and took first through third singles. Bush, Alyssa McAndrew and Elizabeth Morgan tallied the three points for Bucknell at the bottom of the singles lineup. Bush was forced into a super tiebreak against Ruta Grinvalde. The freshman won the opening set 6-4 but dropped the second also by a score of 6-4. She finally closed the deal 10-8. McAndrew and Morgan had a much simpler time of their matchups, winning in straight sets. Both allowed just two games in the entire match to their opponents.
