Bucknell Women's Tennis Takes Two on Last Day of Florida Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Bucknell women's tennis team improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 on the spring season with two wins on Thursday. The Bison defeated Long Island, 4-3, and won a rescheduled match against Hamilton, 5-2. Against Long Island, Bucknell lost the doubles point but did win at third doubles, where Samantha Berthod and Rheanna Gaskin beat Annicris Garcia and Xenia Roman Korobochkina, 8-0. Veronica Brown and Tanya Sichko lost to Veronica Apostu-Efremov and Krystina Bachner, 8-5, while Nadezda Curcic and Chelsea Mills fell to Merve Koksal and Ellen Anolin, 8-6 on court two. Bucknell responded to take four of six singles matches. Though Gaskin lost to Koksal, 7-5, 6-2 on court one, and Sichko fell to Bachner, 6-2, 6-4 at third singles, Brown beat Apostu-Efremov, 6-2, 6-1 at second, Curcic beat Anolin, 6-0, 6-1 at fourth, and Berthod beat Korobochkina, 6-4, 6-0 at sixth. Mills' win over Garcia, 6-0, 6-1 on court five, clinched the match. The Bison claimed the doubles point to start the afternoon against Hamilton. Mills and Curcic beat Kaitie Donovan and Kate Borne of Hamilton, 8-1, while Gaskin and Berthod beat Brittany Horn and Lindsay Walsh, 8-2 on court two. Rebecca Kral and Kelly Porter lost at third doubles to Allie Pohl and Meghan Rose, 9-8(7).
Bucknell won at second through fifth singles but incurred losses on courts one and six. Brown was a winner on court two over Horn, 6-2, 6-0, while Curcic beat Pohl, 6-1, 6-0 at third singles, Mills was a winner at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Walsh, and Berthod beat Borne, 6-0, 6-1 at fifth. Gaskin lost to Donovan, 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and Clinton lost to Rose, 6-0, 3-6, (10-7) at sixth singles.
The two matches end the team's Spring Break trip to Florida. Bucknell will travel to Baltimore to face Loyola on Sunday at 9 a.m.
