Bison Women Win First Patriot League Tennis Match of the Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team (3-6, 1-0 PL) won its first Patriot League contest of the season over American (0-3, 0-1 PL), 4-2, on Friday afternoon at the Bucknell tennis courts in Lewisburg, Pa. The match consisted of just singles play as there was no need for doubles action, with the Bison taking the four necessary points to win the match.

In the No. 1 singles spot, senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) hung on in a close match for the win over the Eagles' Julia Colarusso, 7-5, 6-4.

The Orange and Blue claimed victories in the No. 3 and 4 spots with freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) defeating Ali Harrison, 6-1, 6-2, and classmate Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) winning 6-3, 6-1, over Merrisa Hollinger, respectively.

Freshman JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) won her match at the No. 6 spot over Alison Schmidt, 6-1, 6-2.

The women are scheduled to take a week-long break before returning to action on Friday, March 31, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to battle Marist, scheduled for 3 p.m.
