Bison Women's Tennis Blanks Mount St. Mary's 7-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Bucknell women's tennis team notched its third victory of the season defeating Mount St. Mary's, 7-0, at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. Sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) dropped Chelsea Johnson, who came in to the match with a 17-2 singles mark, in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-3. In No. 1 doubles, the team of Gamboa and freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Township) took down Johnson and Katie Muething, 8-6. The duo of JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) clinched the doubles point for the Bison after their 8-3 win over Ashley Wentzel and Emily Grugan, in the No. 3 spot. Freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Muething in the No. 1 spot, to put Bucknell up 3-0. Freshman Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) sealed the victory for the Orange and Blue after she defeated Wentzel in the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Calcaterra notched a No. 3 singles win over Jen Iosue, 6-3, 6-1, while Simonetti beat Grugan in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-3. Junior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) earned a No. 4 singles victory over Whitney Edmonds in a tough two-set superbreaker, 6-1, 3-6, 11-9. Bucknell will host its third straight home match on Saturday, April 7, against Fairleigh Dickinson, at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts.
