Bucknell Women's Tennis Bests Colgate, 6-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. – With its 6-1 victory over Colgate Saturday, the Bucknell’s women’s tennis team won for the 12th time this season, bringing its record to 12-5, already the best record in four years. Colgate falls to 5-11 on the season. The Bison won two doubles matches and five singles matches. Junior Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy), sophomore Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) and senior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) all produced victories in doubles and singles. In doubles Varela paired with junior Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) to grab their seventh victory in seven tries this spring with a win in the second flight. Varela defeated Elise DeRose (4-6, 7-5, 10-6) in the top flight of singles in three sets to bring her singles record to 10-3 this spring. The Bison’s top win-producing doubles team of Lucido and Gamboa defeated DeRose and Cameron Williams, 8-2, in the top doubles spot to bring their spring record to 9-1 and 15-3 on the year. In singles play, Bucknell got wins from Lucido, Gamboa, freshman Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) and sophomore Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor). Rottkamp’s win brings her spring winning total to 13-1, a team-best. Next up for the Bison is a home match against Army, April 11, at 2 p.m., on the Fieldhouse Courts. Doubles
