Bison Women's Tennis Pulls Out Close One Over Villanova

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team claimed two of three doubles matches and won three of the six singles bouts on its way to a 4-3 victory over visiting Villanova on Saturday, April 6. The crucial doubles point proved to be the difference in a reverse outcome of last season's 7-0 loss at Villanova. Freshmen Nadezda Curcic and Ashley Diers got the Orange and Blue rolling in doubles action with an 8-1 victory over Jessie Rybacki and Kelly McAndrew at No. 2. Senior captain Kristin Inglis and freshman Tanya Sichko followed with an 8-3 win against Jennifer Zick and Liz Farrell at No. 3 doubles to give the Bison the doubles point. In singles action, Bucknell dropped the No.1 spot before Curcic defeated Ashely Young at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3, to even it out. The Wildcats won at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches to hold a 3-2 lead with just the No. 5 and No. 6 singles bouts remaining. Sichko came through for the Bison at No. 5, picking up a 6-1, 6-1, win over Zick, before sophomore Samantha Berthod clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Erica Walter. Bucknell improves to 9-6 overall and will face Patriot League rival Army in a crucial Patriot League match on Sunday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m.
