Bison Women's Tennis Rolls with 6-1 Win Over Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Bucknell won the doubles point, and secured five of six singles matches, on its way to a 6-1 win at Villanova in women's tennis action on Thursday, April 10. The Bison win their second in a row to improve to 12-2 on the year. In doubles play, the tandem of sophomore Nadezda Curcic and freshman Veronica Brown teamed up to defeat Jennifer Zick and Stephane Ariot, 8-3, at number one. At the second doubles flight, senior Jill Wurzburg and sophomore Tanya Sichko came back from a 5-2 deficit to beat Jessie Rybacki and Kelly McAndrew, 8-6, to secure the doubles point. Curcic, Brown and Berthod made sure to put the Bison in a good position with wins at the first three singles flights, respectively. Curcic defeated Zick, 7-5, 6-1, at number one to even her singles record at 13-13. Brown won her sixth-straight at number two, beating Courtney Flezzani, 6-2, 6-1. Wurzburg was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Rybacki at the third flight. A loss at number four prevented the shutout, but the Orange and Blue picked up victories at five and six for the 6-1 win. Sophomore Rheanna Gaskin improved to 10-0 in the spring with a 6-1, 7-6 (1) win over Lindsey Puchyr at the fifth flight, while junior Samantha Berthod rounded out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Morgan Flezzani at number six. Bucknell, 12-2, will travel to Binghamton for matches with the Bearcats and Vermont on Saturday, April 12. The Bison are scheduled to play the host team at 9:00 a.m., followed by a match with the Catamounts at 2:00 p.m.
