Bison Women's Tennis Defeats Vermont 5-2 at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Bison women's tennis team won the doubles point in a clean sweep, and claimed four of six singles matches, to defeat Vermont 5-2 at Binghamton on Saturday, April 12. Bucknell improved to 13-2 with the victory. Sophomore Nadezda Curcic and freshman Veronica Brown teamed up at the first doubles flight to defeat Maika Foukal and Molly Moran, 8-3. The duo of sophomore Tanya Sichko and freshman Chelsea Mills followed with an 8-5 win over Laura Beth Halter and Alie Taylor to secure the point. Junior Samantha Berthod and Rheanna Gaskin picked up an 8-4 victory over Kyna Delaney and Mandy Harrison at the third doubles flight to round out the sweep. In singles play, Curcic added another point with her victory over Moran. Curcic won the first set on a tie-breaker 7-6 (9), before Moran was forced to retire due to injury. Brown followed with her seventh-straight singles victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Halter. A loss at the third flight gave Vermont its first point of the match, before Gaskin came back with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the fourth flight over Susannah O'Brien. Berthod followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Maika Foukal at the fifth spot to round out the Bucknell scoring. The Bison, 13-2, face the host Binghamton in a dual meet later in the day.
