WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell's women's tennis team dominated over Lehigh, 4-1, in the Patriot League semifinal match at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The win advances the Bison to the finals against Army, who defeated Colgate on Saturday, for a repeat of last year's championship showdown.

Earlier, in the season, Lehigh upset Bucknell 4-3, but the Orange and Blue were out to seek revenge for the loss and took complete control of the match and overpowered the Mountain Hawks.

Up first on the day was doubles play, with the pair of Veronica Brown (Derwood, M.d/Col. Zadok Magruder) and Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) in the No. 1 position, defeating Alexis Jacobi and Starrine Foster in a quick and easy 8-2 slaughtering. In the No. 2 spot was the duo of Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East), defeating Ariela Cohen and Gwen Dwyer in a tight 9-8 (4) battle.

JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) also played a strong doubles match in the No. 3 spot, but fell on the short end of a 9-8 (5) score.

In singles play, Baffa finished first for the Bison, falling 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot to Cessa Murasko-Blank. Giving Bucknell the 2-1 lead was Mills, in the No. 2, defeating Lehigh's Cohen, 6-1, 6-3, followed by Grossman winning her match over Lindsay Long, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 6.

With the possibility to win the match for the Bison, Globerman stepped in the No. 4 spot. After falling to Allison Schwartz in the last Lehigh-Bucknell contest, Globerman refused to lose again as she dominated over Schwartz, 6-3, 6-2.

"We knew we had to come out serious and focused," said head coach Rebecca Helt. "We really dominated, it was very exciting to watch."

The Orange and Blue will return to action tomorrow, at noon, against Army for the Patriot League title. In last year's championship match, the Bison fell to the Black Knights 4-0.
