Bucknell Women's Tennis Falls To Army 4-1 in Patriot League Final Match
April 26, 2009 LEWISBURG, Pa. - With a 4-1defeat to Army in the Patriot League Women's Tennis Tournament Championship match, Bucknell's women's tennis finished off another strong season. The second-seeded Bison finished 15-7 overall after losing to the Patriot League's perennial champion: Army, the No. 1 seed. Bucknell finished second in the Patriot League Tournament for the fifth straight season. The Bison produced their best record since the 2005 season and also their sixth double-digit win season in Bison head coach Rebbeca Helt's career. Coming out strong, the Bison won the first match with a doubles victory from sophomore Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) and senior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) over the Black Knight top pairing (8-1). The win was the sole doubles win for Bucknell as they dropped the next two contests. In singles, Bucknell got a big win from Gamboa, again, in the third flight, when she defeated Army's Sarah Giles-Madden 6-3, 6-0 for their only singles win of the finals match. At the time of Army clinching their victory, Lucido was winning her singles match, 6-2, 1-4, as the only other Bison to win a singles set. The Bison capped their season with six of their eight active spring players with double-digit wins in singles record and three doubles teams with over eight wins. Bucknell's top pairing this spring was Lucido and Gamboa, playing from the No. 1 doubles spot, with an overall record of 14-1. The top singles players this season were freshman Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) and Lucido, who each tallied a 15-5 overall record. Doubles: Singles:
