Bison Women's Tennis Blanks Holy Cross, 4-0, in Patriot League Quarterfinal

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - On Saturday, the Bucknell women's tennis team downed No. 6 Holy Cross, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2007 Patriot League Women's Tennis Championships. The Bison will face No. 2 Colgate in the semifinals on Sunday, Apr. 29, at 1 p.m. The Orange and Blue suffered its first Patriot League defeat of the season to the Raiders, 4-3, back in the beginning of April. Bucknell, who are the 2005 and 2006 Patriot League runner-ups, captured the first point of the afternoon after a pair of doubles victories. The team of freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) took down Meg Manahan and Kristen Meahl, 8-0, in the No. 2 spot, while the duo of junior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hill) and sophomore Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) dropped Paige Brown and Natalie Lin in the No. 3 spot, 8-3. With a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play, Bucknell would not look back, winning three straight matches to claim the victory. In the No. 4 spot, freshman Kirstyn Sotak (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) took down Manahan, 6-0, 6-0, while Gamboa defeated Meg Moran in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Ashley Globerman clinched the quarterfinal victory for the Bison with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Meredith Bacon, in the No. 3 spot. Bucknell 4, Holy Cross 0
