WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell sophomore Tanya Sichko claimed gold in the back draw of the third flight at the Eastern Collegiate Women's Tennis Championship, held at Army on Friday-Sunday, September 13-15. Sichko won four straight matches to claim the medal.

On the second day of competition, Bucknell's freshman Veronica Brown dropped her only match at second singles to fourth-seeded Trinell Russell of Connecticut, 6-3, 6-3.

Freshman Rheanna Gaskin, playing at the fourth seed, also lost to Ketevan Shmakova of Rutgers, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, in her only match of the day.

The first doubles team of senior Jill Wurzburg and junior Samantha Berthod won their first match of the day, 8-6, over Connecticut's fourth-seeded Colleen Connors and April Dixon. The duo then dropped the semifinal round match to the top-seeded tandem of Annie Collier and Megan Noble of Army, 8-5.

Sichko started her impressive singles run on the second day with a win by default over MaryAnn Stevens of Adelphi. She followed that match with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Linsey Dixon of New Hampshire in the consolation round of the back draw. It took three sets to defeat Hayley Hughes of Pittsburgh in the finals, but Sichko came out victorious, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Bucknell is in action next when it hosts the Bucknell Fall Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22.
