Bucknell Women's Tennis' Iepuras Claims 100th Career Victory at Bison Quad
Sept. 30, 2011
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School (Pa.)) became the 10th player in Bucknell women's tennis history to reach 100 total career victories as play got underway at the Bison Quad on Friday. On a day packed full of matches in an attempt to get ahead of bad weather, Iepuras' outing proved the most noteworthy, as did not allow a game in her milestone win. After receiving a first-round bye, Iepuras defeated Kelsey Wanhainen of Colgate 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. The victory improved her career combined record to 100-67, ranking her 10th in program annals. Next up for the senior is Youngstown State's Marta Burak. Also playing for a spot in the Flight A final is Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland). A 6-4, 6-2 win over Colgate's Steph Brown was followed by an equally efficient 6-2, 6-3 victory over Carolyn Jesko of Youngstown State put Vidrascu in her first semifinal of the season. She will face the winner of teammate Alyssa McAndrew (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and Niagara's Hilary Hansen. Bucknell's freshmen in Flight B had a tougher test. Christie Schneider (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde), Kristen Bishof (Great Falls, Va./Madeira School) and Claudia Silvers (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) each won their first-round matches before falling in the quarters. In doubles action, Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and McAndrew continued their strong play. The last time the duo competed together, they won the Flight B title at the Bucknell Invitational. The pair of rookies is going for a repeat after becoming the only Bucknell doubles team to move into the semifinals after claiming wins against Colgate and Niagara.
Despite rain in the forecast, play at the Bison Quad is expected to resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday. BUCKNELL RESULTS Quarterfinals: Consolation: SINGLES Quarterfinals: |
