Oct. 15, 2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis completed its fall tournament schedule last weekend, taking on Delaware, Lehigh and Loyola (Md.) at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. Maria Cioffi went 2-0 in singles, bringing her season record to 12-3 to lead the Bison. The freshman also teamed up with Elena Vidrascu again for a 2-1 mark in doubles, including two close victories over the Mountain Hawks. In doubles, Cioffi and Vidrascu defeated Abby Farrell and Jenai Bilimoria twice, each time by a score of 9-8. The Bison duo is now 10-3 together this fall, making them the only Bucknell tandem with more than five victories. Vidrascu's doubles success moved her up to a tie for 18th all-time at Bucknell with a career record of 38-35. The junior's combined wins total now stands at 74, ranking 16th in program history. Cioffi opened last weekend with a quick two-sets win over Delaware's Nataliya Naumova. She had a tougher time against Lehigh's Farrell but stayed undefeated in singles action with the 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 decision. Also earning wins was Lydia Colvin, also in a super tiebreak over the Blue Hens' Olivia Heim, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8. The sophomore later defeated Ali Kaminetsky of Lehigh, 6-0, 6-3, giving her back-to-back singles wins for the first time this fall. Christie Schneider, Jen Bush and Stephanie Pino also earned singles victories against Lehigh, giving the Bison seven wins in 11 matches against the Mountain Hawks over the course of the weekend. Bucknell will now be idle until the start of dual play. The Bison kick things off with Saint Francis (Pa.) at the West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa., on Feb. 2, 2013.
