Bison Women's Tennis Picks up Two All-Patriot League Honors
May 1, 2006 LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis program received two 2006 All-Patriot League selections, the league office announced on Monday morning. Senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) earned first-team honors, while classmate Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) received second-team recognition. Brown turned in a 2006 dual match singles league record of 3-2, all in the No. 1 spot, and a league doubles record of 2-2 also at No. 1, partnered with freshman Paulina Gamboa. Brown turned in an overall record of 6-12 in singles and 8-9 in doubles play. Brown defeated all-league first team selection Gwen Dwyer, of Lehigh, twice this season, once in regular season action and once during the post-season tournament. Her freshman season, the senior received second-team honors, along with the league's Rookie of the Year Award. In 2004-05, she was also named First Team All-Patriot League.
Co-captained with Mills, Brown finished her four year career leading the Bison in combined victories with 158 and doubles wins with 82. Mills receives the honor for the first time in her career, after turning in a 3-2 singles league record in the No. 2 spot and a league doubles record of 2-2 also in the No. 2 position, partnered with both sophomore Caitlin Baffa and freshman Ashley Globerman. Overall in 2006, Mills turned in a dual match record of 8-9 in singles and 8-10 in doubles play. In the record books, Mills sits fourth in combined (122), in singles (71) and in doubles career victories (51). The Orange and Blue finished their season with an overall record of 9-12 (3-2 PL), finishing second in the Patriot League tournament to Army.
