Tolli Wins Twice to Lead Bucknell Women's Track & Field at Gulden Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Caroline Tolli claimed two individual victories and Olivia Massey registered one of the best long jump marks in history as Bucknell women's track and field finished second at the Gulden Invitational on Saturday. The Bison finished with 139.5 points at Gerhard Fieldhouse in their scored meet of the year. It was the second consecutive season in which they were runners-up at their home meet. Tolli won both the mile and 1,000 meters, giving Bucknell its only gold medals on the day. The senior' cleared 18-6 ½, which was good enough for No. 6 on the program record lists. Massey was not ranked in the event entering the meet. Bucknell picked up a number of second and third place finishes to help them to their team placing. Among them was Abby Monaghan, who surpassed 50 feet in the weight throw for the first time this season. Monaghan was third in 52-6. Emily Ando tied her career best in the pole vault, clearing 11-9 ¾ and taking third as well. On the track, Jennifer Zymet maintained her streak of finishing among the top two in all her races. The sprinter was second in the 400 on Saturday, clocking in at 57.82 seconds. Hana Casalnova and Beth Braunegg teamed up to go 2-3 in the 800 meters. Casalnova crossed the line in 2:15.59 with Braunegg just a few a seconds behind her in 2:17.03. At a slightly longer distance and finishing second was Montana DiPietrantonio. The sophomore completed the 5,000 meters in 17:55.13. On the relay front, Bucknell placed second in both the 4x400 and 4x800. Bucknell's 139.5 points earned it a second-place team finish for the second straight year. Just as the team standings went a year ago, the Bison trailed Duquesne, which was second with 177 points. Both squads were head-and-shoulders above the rest of the nine-team field. Lafayette placed third with 58 points.
Bucknell will return to action Jan. 25-26, splitting the squad between the Bison Open & Multi and the Penn State National Invitational.
