2007 Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell women's track and field squad competed in the 18th Annual Bucknell Winter Classic in Gerhard Fieldhouse. Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa/Butler Area) won the pole vault after clearing a height of 13 feet, 4 ¼ inches (4.07m), which was an NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying mark and a new fieldhouse record. The Bison also completed the final day of competition at the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup finishing 14th out of 16 teams in University Park, Pa.

At the Sykes-Sabok, senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) notched a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 10.42 seconds, which was and ECAC qualifying mark. Senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) posted a time of 26.04 in the 200, which was a personal best and ranks her eighth in school history.

At the Bucknell Winter Classic, the team of senior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), junior Lesley Emons (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional), sophomore Katie Becket (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and freshman Kelcey Coffin (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) took first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:10.25. Freshman Laura Cundey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) finished first in the 1,000 with a time of 3:05.16, while sophomore Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) crossed the line with a time of 3:05.73.

 

 

In the 3,000, junior Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Erie Villa Marie) and sophomore Nicole Smith placed first and second, respectively. Grant ran a time of 10:46.08, while Smith broke the plane with a time of 10:55.56. In the triple jump, freshman Amanda Kronquist (Chino Hills, Calif./Brea Olinda) finished first with a distance of 35-11 ¼ (10.95m).

Junior Christine Miller (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) notched a second-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:27.09. Freshman Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) finished third in the 500 with a time of 1:18.67. Junior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) posted second-place showings in the 20-lb weight throw and shot put, with tosses of 50-0 ½ (15.25m) and 40-0 (12.19m) respectively. Freshman Amy Mantush jumped for a height of 5-3 (1.60m) in the high jump, which was good for second place.

The Bucknell women's indoor track and field squad will look to win its 6th-straight Patriot League Championship on Friday, Feb. 16, in West Point, N.Y., on the campus of Army. The meet is slated to start at 12 p.m.
