NEWS FROM 2006 PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONHIPS: WOMEN TAKE AN EARLY LEAD

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell track and field teams completed day one of competition at the 2006 Patriot League Championships, hosted by Navy, in Annapolis, Md., on Friday, Feb. 17. After a full day of competition in the women's pentathlon, the Bison women currently sit in first place, while the men are scheduled to finish action in the heptathlon on Saturday morning (Feb. 18). The Bison women finished second and third in the multi-events category to earn 14 total points, topping Lehigh with 10, Navy with four and Army with two. Junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) took second in the pentathlon with a personal-record score of 3286 points, placing her fourth in the Orange and Blue record books, while senior Danielle Todman (Scotch Plains, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) took third with a personal-best score of 3267, placing her sixth on the school's all-time list. Reinhardt dominated in the long jump, with a leap of over 17 feet, earning her a first-place finish and 660 points in the event. In the 55-meter hurdles, Reinhardt turned in a time of 8.67 seconds, and finished in fourth-place and earned 876 points. Todman's strength was the shot-put and the 55 hurdles. In the shot, the senior marked a heave of over 35 feet, good enough for second-place (581 points) and clocked in a hurdles time of 8.52 seconds, for a third-place finish (905 points). On the men's side, through four scored events; the 55-meter dash, long jump, shot put and the high jump, freshman Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) sits in eight place with 2389 points, while junior Kyle McLaughlin (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) sits in ninth with 2082 points.
MacLeod made an impressive showing in the 55, as he clocked in a time of 6.75, and earned a second-place finish and 803 points. The heptathlon will conclude with two of MacLeod's stronger events, the 55-hurdles and the 1000, while McLaughlin will try to earn points in the pole vault. The second of the three-day Championships will begin on Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon, followed by the men's 35-pound weight-throw. The women will fight for their fifth consecutive Patriot League title, which will be determined at the conclusion of the Champions on Sunday afternoon. |
