BISON WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT PATRIOT LEAGUE TITLE

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After being down at the end of the opening day of competition, the Bucknell women's track and field team bounced back to post five first-place finishes en route to its fourth straight Patriot League Outdoor Championship and its eighth since 1999 with a total of 207 points. Following the Bison was Navy (187), Army (108), Lafayette (65.50), Lehigh (48.50), Colgate (42), Holy Cross (22), and American (2). The Bucknell senior class has now been apart of four indoor and outdoor Patriot League track and field Championships. Senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished first in the 800- and the 1,500-meter run. In the 800, she ran a time of 2 minutes, 10.37 seconds, while in the 1,500, she broke the plane at 4:32.85. Both times were ECAC qualifying marks. Junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) won her first gold medal after placing first in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:05.17, which ranks her third in Bucknell history. In the discus, senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spence-Van Etten) notched a first-place performance in the discus with a throw of 151 feet, 3 inches (46.10m), which was an ECAC qualifying mark and a personal best. She also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 43-11 ¾ (13.40m). Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) took first in the high jump after clearing a height of 5-5 (1.65m). She also posted a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 37-8 ¾ (11.50m). Also scoring for the Orange and Blue was senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), who collected two silver medal in the 400 and the 100 hurdles. She ran a time of 56.76 in the 400, while breaking her own 100 hurdles record with a mark of 14.15, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships. She picked up the bronze in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.36, which was also a ECAC qualifying mark.
Junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) ran a time of 4:34.49 in the 1,500, which was good for second place and a new personal best. Senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) finished third in the 5,000 with time of 17:32.24. Senior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) notched a second-place showing in the heptathlon with 4,630 points, which was an ECAC qualifying mark and a new personal best, while senior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) finished with 4,208 points, which was also a personal best. Sophomore Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 58.60. In the 800, junior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and freshman Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) finished fourth and sixth with times of 2:13.08 and 2:15.58, respectively. Hanson-Hall's time in the 800 was a new personal best. Freshman Gabriella Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) finished sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase with time of 11:32.86, which ranks her eighth all-time. The quartet of freshman Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), along with Janda, Hathaway and Trentacoste took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:50.65, which ranks them eighth all-time at Bucknell. Senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) jumped for a distance of 38-9 (11.81m) in the triple jump, which earned her a silver medal. Senior Kathleen Hart (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and junior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) finished second and third in the discus with throws of 148-6 (45.25m) and 143-11 (43.86m), respectively. Hart's distance in the discus ranks her fourth all-time. Bucknell will compete in the 2007 ECAC Championships on Friday, May 11, in Princeton, N.J., on the campus of Princeton.
