Bison 4x800-Meter Team Ties School Record With ECAC Championship Win

PRINCETON, N.J. - Amy Calvo, Lauren Bricker, Jen Marsh and Christa Sawko combined to win Bucknell's first-ever ECAC Championship in a track event on Sunday, winning the 4x800-meter relay at the ECAC Track and Field Championships in Princeton, N.J. Not only was the team's time of 8:53.63 enough to earn ECAC gold, it also tied the school record in the event. The title is just the third ECAC outdoor crown in school history. The 4x800 squad, which is coming off a win at the Patriot League Championships last weekend, came out on top of some tough competition, including Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale. Calvo led off the win with a 2:14.9, and handed off to Bricker who completed her two laps in 2:14.5. Marsh then took the baton and split an impressive 2:12.9, before Sawko blew past the field with a sizzling 2:10.8 on the anchor leg. Beverly Rogers recorded a scoring finish on final day of competition, placing sixth in the javelin with a toss of 135-7 (41.32m). Marjorie Grap also competed in the throws, throwing a mark of 42-10 3/4 (13.07m) in the shot put, good for 15th-place overall. Also in the field, Ann Doty added a 12th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7 1/2 (11.77m). The Bison finished 21st of over 40 teams in the competition, scoring a total of 13 points. Pittsburgh won the meet with a tally of 133. The Bison will take next weekend off before heading to the NCAA East Regional Championships on May 27-28, in Randall's Island, N.Y. Athletes who have met the regional standard or won a Patriot League individual title will be eligible to compete for a spot at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
