Track & Field's Tolli Tabbed Bison Athlete of the Week, PL Runner of the Week
Feb. 4, 2013
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Following one of the best meets of her career, Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) picked up a pair of honors on Monday being named the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week and the Bison Athlete of the Week. The senior won both the 800 and 1,000 meters at the Youngstown State National Invitational with two of the fastest times in program history last weekend. Tolli opened her meet with the 1,000 on Friday, winning in a time of 2:50.88. That was a personal best by nearly four seconds and topped the school record by almost two seconds. Each of the top three spots in the program's top 10 is now held by a current Bison. Following Tolli is Hana Casalnova, who originally claimed the school record ahead of Tolli at last year's Youngstown State meet. Behind Casalnova's No. 2 time of 2:52.33, is Beth Braunegg in third at 2:53.03. When the Youngstown State National Invitational resumed on Saturday, Tolli picked up her second win. The middle distance runner took gold in the 800 meters with another career best, clocking in at 2:13.17. That time ranks fourth in program annals. Tolli was unranked in the top 10 entering the meet. Last weekend marked the second time this year, and the second time in her career, in which Tolli was the victor in each of her two individual races. She also won the mile and 1,000 meters at the Gulden Invitational on Jan. 19. Thanks in part to her performances, Bucknell took the team trophy at the 10-team Youngstown State National Invite. With 150.16 points, the Bison just edged out second-place Duquesne by 0.16 points.
The Track Athlete of the Week and Bison Athlete of the Week awards are both the first of Tolli's career, but the Patriot League honor is the second straight for a female track athlete from Bucknell. Braunegg was also named the Track Athlete of the Week last Monday.
The Bison will compete in their final pre-championships tune-up this Saturday when they host the Bucknell Winter Classic at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Patriot League Championships will follow soon after on Feb. 15-17 at West Point, N.Y. |
