LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's outdoor track and field athletes, Charity Brady (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) and Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) were awarded Patriot League Track and Field Athletes of the Week, on Tuesday, April 22.

Brady received the Women's Track Athlete of the Week award after recording a first place finish in the 400-meter and a third place mark in the 200-meter. She ran the 400-meter in 57.32 and placed herself sixth on Bucknell's all-time charts. In the 200-meter, the senior crossed the line at 25.15.

Maria Garcia smashed her own school and stadium records with an 180'11" throw in the hammer.


Garcia was honored the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after a stunning performance in the hammer throw. The junior shattered the school and stadium records with an NCAA qualifying throw of 180'11". Garcia threw her personal best and refreshed her own school and stadium records (175'4", 2001) by over five feet in the hammer.

The Bison women finished second at the Bucknell Five-Way over Rhode Island, Colgate, and Wagner. Bucknell placed behind Kent State.

Bucknell will participate in the Penn Relays on April 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa. The Bison will then host the 2003 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on May 2-3.
