LEWISBURG, Pa. -

2006 Patriot League Outdoor Championship Schedule

After pulling in the cross country and indoor Patriot League titles, the Bucknell women's track and field program will attempt for a 2005-06 Patriot League sweep, otherwise known as a "triple crown", this weekend at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships held at the Hart Center Track Complex in Worcester, Mass. If the women accomplish the feat, they will pull in their third consecutive outdoor league title.

The women's Championships are scheduled to open on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m., with the heptathlon 100-meter high hurdles. The top six scorers in each event will receive points in increments of 10 for first, eight for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth and one point for sixth place.

Although the women do not return any scorers from last year's sprinting category, junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.), sophomore Lesley Emons (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) and freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) will serve as the Bison's hopefuls for earning points at this year's meet.

Juniors Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) will look to lead Bucknell in the mid-distance categories. At last year's meet, Sawko won the 800-meter run with a school-record breaking time of 2 minutes, 9.63 seconds, while Bricker finished in fifth place, clocking in a time of 2:14.82. Sawko also took third in the 1500, but currently ranks second on the 2006 Patriot League performance list (4:28.28), while Bricker ranks fourth (4:30.14).

In the distance events, juniors Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley), Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) and sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) should make scoring contributions in the 5000, while sophomore Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and junior Mollie Harms (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) should make waves in the 10,000.

Nina Reinhardt

Returning from a fourth-place finish in the 100 high hurdles (15.07) is junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler). Classmate Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), scoring in last year's 400 intermediate hurdles, is expected to also make an impact in the 100 highs.

Bricker currently sits on top of the league's 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 10:52.97, while Totten and junior Rebecca Pierotti (Hazleton, Pa./Bishop Hafey) sit fifth and seventh with times of 11:25.74 and 11:27.64, respectively.

On the field, freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) will look to score for the Orange and Blue in both the high jump and the long jump. Junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) took third in last year's long jump and will try to better her performance in this year's event.

Winning the outdoor league title in the triple jump for the past two years and returning in the event this weekend is junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area), currently dominating the Patriot League with a leap of 39. Bricker placed third in the event at last year's Championships (37-6 1/4).

Buczko broke the Patriot League Championship record last year in the pole vault and returns as the favorite to win in 2006.

Competing in the hammer, discus and the shot put will be junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) and sophomore Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson). Grap is the returning gold medalist in the shot put (43-9) and discus (134-3) and collected the silver medal in the hammer (165-8). Mockbee was right behind Grap in second-place in the discus last season (133-5).

Rounding out the Bison in the heptathlon is Reinhardt and senior Danielle Todman (Scotch Plains, N.J./Bishop George Ahr). Reinhardt finished in second place last year, scoring 4154 points, while Todman finished in third with 4131.

Friday's women's action will conclude with the 10,000, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday will open with the heptathlon long jump starting at 9 a.m., and concluding with the 4x400-relay, set to begin at 6:15 p.m. Closing out the Championships will be the Awards Ceremony, scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
