Fourteen Bison Selected to All-Patriot League Track and Field Teams
May 10, 2005 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Following its second-straight Patriot League Outdoor Championship, the Bucknell women's track team posted a league-high 14 athletes on the All-Patriot League teams, announced by League offices on Tuesday. Eight Bison received first team honors, while another six athletes were selected to the second team. Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet winner Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) received first-team honors after winning a pair of gold medals at the PL Championships. The sophomore earned a win in the discus with a toss of 134-3 and notched a victory in the shot put with a heave of 43-9. Angie McFarland (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) was also selected to the first-team after taking first in the hammer with a throw of 169-2. Grap earned second-team honors for her silver-medal throw of 165-8 in the hammer. Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) was named to the first team following a record-breaking performance in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared a height of 12-5 ½, good for a gold medal as well as a new League record. Fellow sophomore Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) was also an individual gold-medalist, winning the triple jump with a personal-best jump of 39-0 ½. The win was Doty's fourth Patriot League title in only four tries. Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Amy Calvo (Trenton, N.J./Lawernce), Jen Marsh (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield), and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) were first-team honorees for their gold-medal performance in the 4x800-meter relay. The team combined for a time of 8:53.83, the second-best time in Bison history. Sawko went on to win a gold medal of her own, taking the 800-meters in a personal-best outdoor time of 2:09.63. Her time is the second-best time in program history as well as a NCAA Regional qualifying mark. Marsh also received a second-team nod for her silver-medal finish in the 1,500-meters. The senior finished the race in a personal-record time of 4:33.57, the third-fastest time in the Bison record books and an ECAC qualifying mark. Bricker and Sawko also appeared as second-team honorees, helping the Bison 4x400-meter relay to the second-place finish. Bricker, Sawko, and teammates Monique Boley (Alexandria, Va./Washington Lee) and Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), who were also named to the second-team, finished the competition's final race in 3:54.02. Freshman Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) was named to the second-team after taking the silver in the javelin with a throw of 141-11. Her efforts earned her Rookie of the Meet honors following the championships. Also receiving second-team honors were silver-medal winners Tolu Fayanjuola (Providence, R.I./Classical) in the long jump (18-2 ¼) , Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) in the discus (133-5), and Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) in the heptathlon (4154). The Bison will travel to Princeton, N.J., this weekend for the ECAC Championships. Athletes who have met the conference's qualifying standards will be eligible to compete.
