POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior Shannon Walker posted 42 kills in two matches as the Bucknell University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in its season-opening tournament at Marist College this evening. The Bison defeated Marist 3-1 in the early game before falling to Towson University 3-1 in the nightcap.

Against Marist, Bucknell jumped to a 1-0 lead after edging the Red Foxes 30-28 in the opening game. Marist came back to tie the match after winning the second game 30-25, but the Bison cruised the rest of the way, winning 30-18 and 30-22 in games three and four. Walker tallied a match-high 23 kills and made just three errors to lead the Bison, while senior Whitney Williams added 23 assists and three service aces.

In the second game, Towson built a 2-0 lead after winning 30-25 and 30-23 in the opening two games. The Bison rallied to win game three 30-23, but the Tigers held off Bucknell 30-25 to win game four and the match. Walker was nearly perfect in the match, throwing down a match-high19 kills while committing only one error. Williams was also impressive against Towson, gathering match-highs of 46 assists and 12 digs.

Bucknell will conclude tournament play tomorrow when it faces Central Connecticut University at 2:00.
