Bucknell Volleyball Blanks Holy Cross, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) and junior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) both posted double-doubles as the Bucknell volleyball squad cruised past Holy Cross with a 3-0 victory on Friday evening, taking the games by the scores of 30-27, 30-28 and 30-21. The win moved the Bison to 14-11 overall and 6-4 in the Patriot League, while the Crusaders dropped to 6-16 on the year and 2-8 in league action. Henderson led Bucknell's offense with 14 kills and also had a match-best 13 digs along with junior Allison Brady (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) who set a new career-high with 13 digs. Sydlowski followed with 10 kills and 10 digs and hit .429 with just one error in 21 attempts. Junior Jennie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) tallied eight kills and four service aces while senior Jessica Le (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) chipped in with 24 assists and freshman Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) totaled 17 assists. The Bison outhit the Crusaders, .250 to .152.
"I think we had a really great defensive effort from Sydlowski, Henderson and Brady," said Bucknell head coach Cindy Opalski. "In the wake of Chelsea Anderson's injury, I'm pleased we came out and posted 61 digs as a team in a three-game match."
Christine Strawson was the lone Holy Cross player to reach a double-digit total in kills as she recorded a match-high 18 kills and hit .359. Molly Anderson contributed 11 digs and setter Chrissy Fanning had 33 assists. Bucknell next travels to West Point, N.Y., tomorrow, Oct. 29, to take on Army in a league match set to begin at 5 p.m. |
