LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team celebrated its senior night by picking up a 3-0 victory over Lehigh on the court in Davis Gym on Saturday evening. The win was the fourth consecutive for the Bison and moved the squad to 17-10 overall and 8-3 in the Patriot League. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks dropped to 0-25 overall and 0-11 in league matches.

Junior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) and sophomore Emilie Hardinge (Darien, Conn./Darien) totaled 12 kills apiece to head up the offense for the Orange and Blue. Henderson also added 11 digs for her 10th double-double of the year. Senior Amanda Grossmann (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) followed with seven kills, while classmates Sarah Groman (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) and Jennie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) each contributed six kills. Sophomore Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) compiled 39 assists and two service aces and senior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) finished with 22 digs and two service aces.

Shannon Spafford paced Lehigh with 14 kills and Michelle Schwendenmann recorded 12 kills. Setter Sarah Wolfe had 38 assists and two service aces and Cassidy Maumus posted a match-best 29 digs.

In game one with the score tied at five, Bucknell used a 9-1 run to jump in front, 14-6, and rolled to a 30-17 win, behind a .316 team hitting percentage.

The Bison led by as many as nine in game two before the Mountain Hawks managed to close the gap to 28-26, however, the Orange and Blue held on for a 30-28 victory.

After a kill by Shannon Spafford put Lehigh up 1-0 to start game three, Bucknell answered with a kill by Grossmann and back-to-back service aces by Sydlowski take a 3-1 lead. The Bison would not trail again in the frame as the squad iced the match victory with a 30-23 decision.

 

 

Bucknell returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 4, when the team will play the final home contest of its regular season schedule, against Patriot League foe Colgate, beginning at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
