Bucknell Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback Against American

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell suffered a 3-0 setback against American in Patriot League volleyball action on Friday night in Davis Gym. With the loss, the Bison fall to 11-15 on the year, 4-7 in league play, while the Eagles improve to 20-7, 10-1 in league contests. In game one, with a narrow two-point lead at 9-7, American went on a 13-5 run, capped off by five straight points, to pull ahead by 10 at 22-12. The Eagles maintained their advantage the rest of the way to take the frame, 30-21, with the help of seven service aces. Play was even at the start of game two, until American strung together a 15-2 stretch, which included 12 straight points for the Eagles. After building the 20-6 lead, the squads were equal in scoring the rest of the way, but American went ahead 2-0 in the match with the 30-16 victory. Bucknell rebounded in game three by matching the Eagles point-for-point and eventually pulling out to a 13-9 lead, prompting a timeout by American. Following the break, the Eagles rallied to tie the score at 21. The Bison recovered and led 27-25, however, American stole a 30-28 match-clinching win after recording five of the final six points in the game. Freshman Heidi Kamp (Springfield, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) was the lone Bucknell player to reach double-figures in kills as she totaled a team-high 12, followed by senior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) with eight. Henderson led the squad in digs with 13 and added three block assists. Junior Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) and classmate Sheena Czipri (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) contributed nine digs apiece, while Pitsch also dished 25 assists.
For the Eagles, Julia Borecka led the way with nine kills and 13 digs. Claire Recht and Ivana Cebakova finished with eight kills each. Cebakova and Cassandra Ricketts each registered five service aces, Christina Nash had 32 assists and Cynammon Burns compiled 13 digs.
The Bison will close out their 2007 home schedule tomorrow, Nov. 3, with a match against Navy at 5 p.m. in Davis Gym. |
