HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate Raiders surprised the Bucknell women's volleyball team this evening in the regular-season finale in Hamilton, N.Y., spoiling Bucknell's attempt to defeat every Patriot League opponent, save American, on both chances this season. Bucknell won the opening game but lost the next three, giving Colgate the win.

The Bison had their best game of the night in game one, hitting .143 and holding the Raiders to a .000 hitting percentage as Bucknell won, 30-18. But the Raiders returned the favor in games two and three, as Bucknell had an error for every kill, hitting .000 in both games and losing both, 30-22 and 30-24.

Bucknell mounted a comeback in game four, pushing the stanza to extra points, but Colgate was able to use its best offensive game of the night as the Raiders hit .200 in the frame and won, 32-30.

Two Bison had double-digit kills, as Jackie Leahy had 17 and Brandi Trapasso added 14. Trapasso also had 16 digs, one of three players with double-digits in that category. Breean Trapasso had 27 and Chelsea Anderson had 19. The Bison also out-blocked Colgate, 12-7.

Colgate also had two players in double-digit kills, as Allie Nichols had 18 and Laurel Oliver had 17.

Jackie Leahy moved closer to what could be a record-setting season, as she increased her kill total to 389 for the year. That puts her in a tie for fifth-best all time for a Bucknell season, 32 back of Melissa Wharton's 421 in 1996. Jennie Smith's four block assists tied her for third all-time with 81 in a season, behind Wharton's 94 in 1995.

Despite the loss, the 11 league wins are the most in Bucknell history, edging the 10-2 season the team had in 2000, also the last year of seven Patriot League volleyball schools and the last year Bucknell was in the NCAA Tournament. The Bison are 15-12 on the year and will continue their season in the Patriot League tournament as the second seed against third-seeded Lehigh at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. The league tournament will be held at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C., home of top-seed American.
