Bucknell Volleyball Paces Patriot League with 13 Academic Honor Roll Members
Jan. 31, 2007 LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team saw 13 of its student-athletes earn spots on the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, it was announced on Wednesday. Improving upon their total of 10 from 2005, the Bison led the league in honor roll members for a second straight year as American was second with 11. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter. Highlighting Bucknell's list of honorees were seniors Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Amanda Grossmann (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). Sydlowski, a biomedical engineering major, led the squad with a 3.92 GPA this past fall. Grossmann, who earned her second ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II University Division Volleyball First Team honor in 2006, posted a 3.91 GPA as a Elementary Education major and senior Jennie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), an international relations major, finished the semester with a 3.91 GPA as well. "This is a classic representation of the type of student-athlete our volleyball program at Bucknell has attracted over the last several years," said Bucknell head coach Cindy Opalski. "Our women are committed to their sport, but most importantly, they posses the determination to excel in an environment of rigorous academic expectations. We are very proud of their achievements both in the classroom and on the court." Elsewhere around the league, Holy Cross placed eight student-athletes on the honor roll, while Army and Lafayette had six each, followed by Colgate and Navy with four apiece and Lehigh with three.
