Bucknell Volleyball Plays Host to Two Patriot League Matches This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball squad will play host to Patriot League matches this weekend against Army and Holy Cross. On Friday, the Bison will take the court against the Black Knights at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym and will face the Crusaders at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Bucknell comes into the weekend with a two-match winning streak, most recently coming away with a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) on the road this past Tuesday. The Bison have a 1-1 record in league play after opening up last weekend with a 3-0 loss to American and a 3-2 win against Navy and are 4-1 at home on the year.

Sophomore Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) was named Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week last Monday after leading Bucknell with 3.62 kills per game and hittting .357 while also averaging 2.25 digs per game in the first weekend of league action. Henderson tallied a season-best 20 kills and hit .308 with 10 digs against the Mids and she hit .471 with just one error in 17 attempts and posted nine kills versus the Eagles.

Currently Henderson leads the Bison squad with 3.10 kills per game on the season and is hitting .241 which trails only junior Sarah Groman (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) who is hitting a team-best .248. Senior Chelsea Anderson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) is first on the Bucknell squad in digs per game with 3.98 and ranked ninth in the nation last week in service aces per game with an average of 0.77.

The Black Knights come to Lewisburg carrying a five-match winning streak after capturing a 3-1 victory over Manhattan College last time out and have a record of 9-2 overall, 2-0 in league play. Elizabeth Lazzari leads Army with an average of 3.00 kills per game, while Eileen Cassidy is averaging a team-best 3.37 digs per game and Abby Casciato has 10.60 assists per game.

Before facing the Bison, Holy Cross will play a match at Colgate on Friday evening and enter the weekend at 5-9 overall (1-1, PL). Christine Strawson has a team-high average of 4.38 kills per game and also leads in digs per game with 3.31. Chrissy Fanning is averaging 8.96 assists per game.
