Bison Volleyball's Serrato Named to Academic All-Patriot League Team
Nov. 13, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball claimed one last honor as Jessica Serrato (Millbrae, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday. Serrato has a 3.75 grade-point average as a management major and was among the Bison’s leaders in kills and digs this season.
The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The volleyball team typically has seven student-athletes to equal the size of the sport’s All-Patriot League first team. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or a key reserve. Award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s sports information directors who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
Serrato has posted one of the team’s top GPAs in recent semesters, earning spots on the Bucknell Dean’s List three times and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice in her career. Off the court, she is also a member of Alpha Chi Omega.
Serrato posted some of the top numbers on the team athletically as well. Since beginning the season in the starting lineup and earning spots on the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational and Bucknell Invitational all-tournament teams, the junior ranks third on the team in kills with 176. Her 2.32 kills per set average is first among Bison. Serrato also totaled 126 digs on the year, giving her a second consecutive season with at least 100 kills and 100 digs. Her kills (176) and blocks (28) totals this fall were both career highs.
The Academic All-Patriot League Team accolade is the first of Serrato’s career, but she is the third consecutive Bison to earn the honor. Rachel Rodriguez was named to the inaugural team in 2010 and Anne Ellenberger was cited last fall.
Bucknell finished the 2012 season with a 9-20 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the Patriot League.
